The former Pakistani bowler Mohammad Amir has received British citizenship after relocating to England a few years ago. But this can cause problems for the fast bowler and make it more difficult for him to play in the PSL 2027 season.
Amir used to play in the PSL as a local player, but in the next PSL 2027, the PSL will need to make room for him as an international player.
Mohammad Amir will now be regarded as a foreign player rather than a local star if he enters the PSL. This means that in order to include him in their PSL 2027 squad, teams will need to use one of their overseas spots.
Mohammad Amir was purchased for PKR 5.4 crores in the PSL auction and played for the Rawalpindi team last season. He was one of the squad’s best earners, but now that Amir is a British citizen, things are different for both him and the team.
A two-year contract covering the 2026 and 2027 seasons was awarded to him, however it said that he was a local player rather than an international star.
What the PSL regulations state while Mohammad Amir PSL contract is uncertain
Each team may keep up to seven players for PSL 12, according to PSL rules and regulations, with the remaining players going directly into the auction pool.
Although the PSL governing body has not made a public statement on Amir’s contract predicament, Rawalpindiz is unable to keep the former Pakistani bowler in the local players’ category due to regulations.
He may need to be released or have his current contract altered. In order to keep Amir for the PSL 2027 season, the team might need to use an overseas spot if they decide not to release him.
Mohammad Amir may play his last season in the competition in PSL 2027, but neither the player nor the PSL or PCB have addressed the rumours.
Why Rawalpindi might decide not to keep Mohammad Amir for the 2027 PSL
The team would have to give up an overseas spot in order to keep him, which might not be an option. Furthermore, keeping the left-arm pacer in an overseas spot for just one season could be risky because he may only play one more season in the league.
Furthermore, Rawalpindi may be tempted to let him go because to his subpar recent performances. Amir has been costly in the ongoing The Hundred, and although playing five games, he has only taken five wickets due to the scarcity of wickets.
Mohammad Amir just six wickets in seven games even in the English home tournament (Vitality T20 Blast), as batters found him easy to handle.
As a lead pacer, Amir’s economy rate has been strong in both The Hundred and the Vitality Blast, but wickets have dried up and he hasn’t been able to deliver the goods with the ball in hand.
His PSL team may therefore want to keep a player who can ensure them wickets during the power play.
