Former India batter Mohammad Kaif has expressed serious concerns about the BCCI’s treatment of player injuries, pointing to recent roster changes and game outcomes as evidence of structural problems. According to Kaif, the absence of key players from earlier games and the present vacancy in the Center of Excellence’s medical leadership are factors leading to India’s injury crisis.

“We don’t treat injuries seriously enough. At Lord’s, Bumrah did not play, and we let up 387 runs. It was an important ODI. On his YouTube channel, Kaif stated.

“We gave up 387 points in the third and final game of the series, which was knotted at one. Thus, I believe that this needs to be addressed. He continued, “Everyone involved needs to sit down, give it their all, and find a solution.

“There was a statement from VVS Laxman that they had approached several people,” Kaif said in reference to previous comments made by the organization regarding the BCCI’s search for medical professionals. They rejected it at the last minute even tho those issues were being sorted out. Therefore, I’m attempting to convey that whatever is going on has to be fixed. Kaif continued.

Why is there a vacancy in sports science? Kaif queries

The Center of Excellence has been without a permanent Head of Sports Science and Medicine since Nitin Patel’s resignation in March 2025. Currently leading the department is senior physiotherapist Dhananjay Kaushik. “Now, I am surprised because so many people are eager to work with the BCCI,” he said. People will come racing if we call because we have so much money. Don’t they? Take a peek at the players. Players travel from their home nations to participate in the IPL. “Kaif continued.

“Don’t they come? I was thus a little taken aback that we haven’t been able to reach an agreement with some of the top medical professionals and physiotherapists in the world to collaborate with the BCCI. We pay so much, which surprises me. We provide such excellent contracts. Someone will undoubtedly earn a lot of money if they come and work here. They are highly compensated,” he said.

Before the Test series against Sri Lanka begins on August 15, several Indian players are currently coping with illnesses. Harshit Rana, Washington Sundar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Akash Deep are recovering from various injuries, while Jasprit Bumrah was left out of the Test series.
