Former fast bowler Jason Gillespie stated that the team is growing older and would soon need to make changes in response to the results. Hasan Mahmud was selected Player of the Match for being the best bowler of the match, scoring 6/55 in Australia’s first innings and 3/56 in the second.
Tanzid Hasan scored 101 in Bangladesh’s first innings, while Cameron Green’s 104 in Australia’s second innings was the only batting highlight for the hosts. Mehidy Hasan Miraz took 5/66 in Australia’s second innings, while Josh Hazlewood, Australia’s best bowler, took 6/89 in Bangladesh’s first.
Bangladesh defeated Australia by nine wickets in the inaugural Test match at Darwin, which was played from August 13 to 16. This was the Tigers’ third Test win in Australia and their first in 23 years. While Australia scored 198 in their first and 284 in their second innings, Bangladesh answered with 426 in the first innings before chasing down a target of 57 for the loss of just one wicket.
“Pat Cummins’ captaincy was fine, but Australia batted poorly in the first innings.” Throughout the entire match, Bangladesh outperformed them. They played patient, traditional Test cricket. In Mackay, Australia will make a significant comeback. But over the next six to twelve months, selectors will add new players to this aged squad.
For the Mackay Test, Matt Renshaw has been substituted for Jake Weatherald. Apart than that, the only thing that will be discussed is whether Scott Boland will play; I’m not sure if he will replace the spinner or one of the seamers. However, Australia will recover well. Gillespie told the Indian Express that Mackay’s surface will be excellent.
What changes has Australia made to the Mackay Test?
At least one alteration has been revealed for Australia’s team for the second Test, which will be held from August 22 to 26 at Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay. Following the devastating defeat in Darwin, Matt Renshaw took Jake Weatherald’s spot in the team. Another selection issue has been the insertion of Scott Boland, either in place of or in addition to one of the speed trio of Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and skipper Pat Cummins.
“They’ve been great,” Gillespie said, adding that his team will have more chances in the next Test. They bowled really well in the first Test, in my opinion. However, Bangladesh simply batted incredibly effectively. I believe they will have an opportunity to do better against Bangladesh if they bowl in the same manner once more. Bangladesh also had excellent seamers.
They were deserving of victory. In the first inning, Tanzid Hasan scored a century, and other batters helped to take the lead. Bangladesh is showing some encouraging signals. Supporting that is now their challenge.
Gillespie added, “And the Australians will want to recover from what was a really dismal showing.
Which young fast bowlers could Australia take into consideration?
Gillespie stated that Australian selectors would try to recruit new players over the next six to twelve months, hinting at a broader selection conversation that extends beyond the next Mackay Test as the current group develops. “Callum Viddler from Queensland looks a good prospect,” he said, recommending four fast bowlers from the domestic circuit for future consideration by selectors.
He bowls with good velocity and speed. Jhye Richardson from Western Australia is another. Jordan Buckingham and Nathan McAndrew are two South Australians that have done well in recent times. “Going forward, the Australian selectors have a few options to consider,” Gillespie continued.
