India head coach Gautam Gambhir is reportedly under increased scrutiny following a spate of poor results across formats, with a report alleging that certain senior members of the Indian team are displeased with his coaching tactics.

According to Cric Blogger, several veteran players have privately conveyed reservations about Gambhir’s coaching method to former India cricketers and BCCI Apex Council members. However, the discussions are alleged to have been casual, with no official complaint filed.

The report further said that Gambhir’s perceived reluctance to accept responsibility for failures has not gone well with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), putting more pressure on the former India opener.

Despite the alleged reservations, the report noted that Gambhir continues to have the BCCI’s confidence and is firmly in charge of the Indian team.

India aims for a turnaround in the Sri Lanka Test series.

India’s next assignment is a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka as part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle. The visitors are presently fifth in the WTC rankings, with four victories, four defeats, and one draw.

Gambhir’s Test cricket career has been a mixed one. India suffered a historic 0-3 home loss to New Zealand in 2024, their first defeat by that margin in a home Test series of three or more matches. They also lost a 0-2 home series to South Africa before securing a respectable 2-2 draw in England.

The struggle in Sri Lanka has gotten even more difficult as a result of many physical setbacks. India will be missing several crucial players, including Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Harshit Rana, who have all been ruled out of the series.

With pressure rising following previous white-ball defeats in Ireland and England, the forthcoming Test series might be crucial for Gambhir and the Indian team as they seek to resuscitate their World Test Championship campaign.
