Even though the team won handily, former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik pointed out a big problem for the team going forward.
India took a 1-0 lead in the two-match series after defeating Sri Lanka by 165 runs in the first Test in Galle. On Wednesday, August 19, the game came to an end, marking India’s 600th Test match.
Given the spin-friendly conditions at the venue, Karthik’s analysis of India’s susceptibility to Sri Lankan fast bowling in the second innings was noteworthy. The former skipper of the Kolkata Knight Riders was impressed by the Sri Lankan pacers’ six wickets during India’s second-innings batting.
In India’s second innings, pace bowling is a problem.
India was in a strong position early in the game thanks to their first-innings total of 462. The trajectory indicated that the match might be finished in three days when Sri Lanka reached 90 for 5 in their first innings. But that momentum was drastically changed by the batting meltdown in the second innings against pace bowling.
Suthar’s first 10-wicket haul in the second Test
Karthik also commended Manav Suthar, a left-arm spinner, for his outstanding effort during the game.
Suthar took four wickets in the first innings and six for fifty-five in the second, totalling ten wickets over the course of the two innings. Suthar became the youngest Indian spinner to take ten wickets away from home at the age of 24 years and 16 days.
Suthar’s performance showed that he could take advantage of opportunities and keep control when the circumstances of the game called for rapid breakthroughs.
