Harbhajan Singh has expressed his desire to take on administrative duties in Indian cricket if given the opportunity. The former India spinner stated that he would be happy to support the game in a number of ways at the highest level of the sport’s governance.

Harbhajan Singh made it clear that he wanted to occupy multiple positions inside the BCCI hierarchy. He emphasised that his primary objective is to significantly impact Indian cricket, not to pursue titles or positions: “It is not like I want to hold all three roles in the future, but I believe whatever is in my destiny, I will get it.” I would be overjoyed to take up any such position where I could contribute to Indian cricket.

Harbhajan Singh remarked, “I wish I could somehow give back to this game that has given me a lot.”

The areas of interest of the former spinner

The former left-arm spinner has previously stated that he would like to work as a coach. He hinted that he would apply when the BCCI officially began accepting applications in May 2024 for the role of head coach of Team India.

It is clear from his statement that Harbhajan intends to continue playing Indian cricket once he retires. “So, whether it be the role of BCCI President, selector, or head coach, I would love to be of any use to Indian cricket, I will be very happy to do it,” Harbhajan Singh stated. His comments align with the BCCI’s ongoing management of several administrative appointments and transitions in a variety of functions.

The Punjab Cricket Association nominated Harbhajan to represent them at the BCCI Annual General Meeting on September 28, 2025, further demonstrating his growing involvement in cricket management.

Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar both have contracts with the BCCI that expire at the end of the 2027 ODI World Cup; Agarkar just received an extension. A potential role as the BCCI Director of Cricket has been strongly linked to the renowned Indian Test player VVS Laxman. Laxman is currently the Head of Cricket at the BCCI Center of Excellence.
