Rocky Flintoff achieved his first Lancashire century, 123 off 76 balls, against Somerset in the One-Day Cup match at Taunton. In an innings that included 10 fours and 7 sixes, Flintoff scored his century off just 65 balls. In reaction to Lancashire’s impressive performance, which saw the county post 443 for 6, their highest-ever List A total, Somerset managed 269. Lancashire won by 174 runs.

At 18 years and 126 days, Rocky Flintoff became the youngest first-team centurion in Lancashire, surpassing Archie MacLaren’s 136-year record. MacLaren had previously held the record for 18 years and 256 days. Rocky Flintoff’s century was part of a 214-run partnership with Keaton Jennings, who made 156 off 127 balls. Former England batsman David Lloyd assessed Flintoff’s performance and possibilities for international cricket, saying, “I just think he can actually be fast-tracked.”

He has everything. I believe he plays cricket internationally. According to Lloyd, who was cited by India Today, “He has a short-arm jab, pull shot, and he’s about six foot five; he’s a big lad, and he can pull it away into the leg-side, very reminiscent of his father.”

David Lloyd’s assessment of Rocky Flintoff’s chances for England

Lloyd highlighted both Rocky Flintoff’s personality and England’s present strategy for developing players. The former Lancashire star underlined the young batter’s poise and the national team’s track record of identifying new talent.

“He is a charming young man with a pleasant disposition. Additionally, I believe that it can be expedited. When you look at a player, you have to determine what kind of player they will be. And I believe England can achieve that with Rocky Flintoff. They’ve been fairly successful at spotting potential and pushing them on in previous years,” Lloyd remarked.

Record-breaking accomplishments and professional growth

When Rocky Flintoff joined the first team in July 2024 at the age of 16 years and 111 days, he became the youngest player in Lancashire history to participate in the One-Day Cup. He has now progressed thru England’s age-group circuit and became the youngest England Under-19 batsman to score a century with 106 against Sri Lanka.

When he scored 126 for the England Lions against the Cricket Australia XI in Brisbane in January 2025 at the age of 16 years and 291 days, he beat his father Andrew Flintoff’s record and became the youngest Lions centurion.

Prior to his Somerset century, Rocky Flintoff had scored 473 runs at an average of 39.41 in 15 List A innings. He returned this season following a back injury in 2025. His first century was a significant turning point in his early career trajectory.
