Australian fast bowler Michael Neser will be sidelined for several weeks due to a strain in his right calf muscle. Michael Neser has been training with the Australian team in Brisbane this month as a backup fast bowler in anticipation of the historic two-match Test Series against Bangladesh.

His current objective is to tour South Africa later this year. The Men in Yellow will play three ODIs in September and three Test matches against the Proteas in October at the Rainbow nation. The eagerly anticipated red-ball series will feature the World Test Championship (WTC) finalists from the previous season.

Australia’s 36-year-old Michael Neser has played in five Test matches and four ODIs so far.

In the red-ball format, he has taken 22 wickets at a strike rate of 35.36 and an average of 18.91. During the pinball Ashes Test against England in December of last year, he recorded his best figures of 5/42 at The Gabba in Brisbane. He has also performed rather well at bat, averaging 18.71 in the longest format of the game.

Michael Neser played in his most recent match earlier this year at the Sydney Test against England at the Kennington Oval while donning an Australian shirt. He hasn’t participated in a white-ball international cricket match since an ODI against South Africa in 2023.

Josh Inglis, on the other hand, was supposed to be fit for the first Test match in Darwin against Bangladesh; but, unless he is picked to bat at number five instead of Cameron Green, his prospects of being selected appear remote. Despite having back spasms during an intra-squad match at Allan Border Field, coach Andrew McDonald said the wicketkeeper-batter will likely be eligible for selection against Bangladesh.

“He’s experienced a back flare-up. He has occasionally experienced these. McDonald told cricket.com.au, “There won’t be any problems; it will just be letting it calm down and then getting him back into work.”

“We have sufficient time. He continued, “There is no worry about whether he would be available or not. We’ll probably be cautious on that, make sure that’s right before you see him return into the nets and the preparation phase.”
