Kuldeep Yadav‘s growth as a cricket player has been encouraged by Ajinkya Rahane, who has highlighted the left-arm spinner’s attempts to get better over the past few years. The 38-year-old made his comments just one week before the India vs. Sri Lanka Test series began in Galle. India will have a four-man spin quintet because Jasprit Bumrah is not available for the visit.
Since making his Test debut in March 2017 at Dharamsala, when he took 4-68 in the first innings, Kuldeep has only played 17 Tests. Throughout his Test career, he has suffered with inconsistent selection. Despite getting little opportunities, he has taken 79 wickets total and demonstrated his skills in white-ball cricket when called upon.
Ajinkya Rahane stated, “I believe Kuldeep has improved his game over the last four or five years, but it is difficult for him because he has not consistently got enough opportunities.”
He has improved his airborne speed. Because cricket is all about rhythm, whether you are bowling or batting, it is difficult for any player who is in and out of the playing XI,” Rahane stated on The Indian Express.
“Kuldeep is an excellent spinner. I supported him in Dharamsala because of this. I was aware of his ability to take wickets. I was sure he would perform, therefore even tho he was unskilled at the moment, I thot putting him in that scenario would assist. You should support your teammates, particularly if they have the potential to win a game. Playing one Test and then missing the next four or five is difficult. For bowlers in particular, rhythm is crucial,” he continued.
Kuldeep’s confidence and potential
Ajinkya Rahane emphasised that bowlers who receive consistent playing time can improve their abilities and find their natural rhythm. The former captain has long encouraged young players, and his support for Kuldeep indicates that he believes the spinner has what it takes to compete at the highest level.
“The ball doesn’t exit your hand in the same manner every day. You will eventually discover that beat and perform consistently if you keep playing. I am quite pleased with Kuldeep’s progress. In white-ball cricket, he excelled whenever he was given the chance. He now has a lot more self-assurance.
