Indian star pacer Jasprit Bumrah will miss the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka due to a left knee injury he sustained during the ODI series against England. Since the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, the 31-year-old fast bowler has struggled with an injury that has kept him out of ODI cricket for nearly two years. He participated in two ODI matches against England prior to experiencing knee problems that kept him from playing in the championship match.
Chaminda Vaas, a former bowler for Sri Lanka, has shared his opinions over Jasprit Bumrah absence. As India prepares for the two-match Test series that will begin in Galle on August 15, Vaas talked about Jasprit Bumrah situation in an exclusive interview with RevSportz.
“Jasprit Bumrah is without a doubt the greatest person on the planet right now. He’s been playing a lot of cricket. He has participated in the IPL, 50-over cricket, and Twenty20 cricket. He acts in a special way. He bowls a lot of overs, which can lead to injury. However, I believe that India will have a strategy for the upcoming 50-over World Cup.
Compared to One-Day cricket, he will be a different bowler in Test cricket. However, as a fast bowler, you must have a healthy recuperation process and return to the game gradually. When it comes to Test cricket, he is without a doubt the finest in the world right now, Vaas told RevSportz.
Jasprit Bumrah was replaced by Auqib Nabi.
The Men’s Selection Committee chose Jammu and Kashmiri fast bowler Auqib Nabi to take Jasprit Bumrah position in the series. Nabi, 26, receives his first call-up to the Indian national squad following an exceptional local record.
After taking 104 wickets over the previous two Ranji Trophy seasons, including 60 during Jammu & Kashmir’s championship-winning 2025–2026 season, the fast bowler became well-known at the national level. India’s pace depth will be tested throughout the two-match series, and Nabi’s inclusion will offer the young bowler an opportunity to establish himself on the global stage.
