During India’s visit of Sri Lanka on August 15, 2026, former Indian captain Ajinkya Rahane will make his Test commentary debut on Sony Sports Network and Sony LIV. The two-Test series marks Rahane’s first commentary box job after an amazing career lasting more than eighteen years.

While representing India in 85 Test matches, former captain Ajinkya Rahane amassed 5,077 runs with 12 hundreds and 26 half-centuries. He will now discuss the format from behind the microphone rather than at the crease.

What did Ajinkya Rahane say about making his commentary debut?

Ajinkya Rahane transitioned into commentary after a long and distinguished career in red-ball cricket. He has almost 5,000 runs in the format and has been India’s Test captain, so he is familiar with the decisions and expectations that affect a Test match.

“I’m thrilled to provide my first Test commentary for India’s tour to Sri Lanka on Sony LIV and the Sony Sports Network. After representing India in the format for so many years, it is an honour to now view the game from a different angle.

Test cricket is the ultimate form of our sport. I’m excited to share my experiences, dissect the subtleties of the game, and provide fans with insights into the choices, tactics, and events that can influence a Test match. Rahane stated, “I want to give fans a deeper understanding of what happens on the pitch and make the broadcast experience more enriching.”

Sony Sports Network announced that Ajinkya Rahane would be joining the commentary team for the India-Sri Lanka series. The two-Test series will be televised on Sony Sports Network and streamed on Sony LIV on August 15, 2026.

“Ajinkya Rahane’s poise, tenacity, and keen understanding of the game have always made him stand out. Viewers will hear his thoughts on the format he is so familiar with as he makes his Test commentary debut on Sony Sports Network and Sony LIV. Rajesh Kaul, Chief Revenue Officer and Business Head, Sports and International, Sony Pictures Networks India, stated, “We are thrilled to have him as part of our commentary panel for India’s tour of Sri Lanka and look forward to the experience and insight he will bring to our coverage.”
