The chairman of the Bangladesh Cricket Board‘s (BCB) security committee, Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed, has pledged to bolster security for India’s upcoming trip of Bangladesh. He points out that although official communication between the two cricket boards has not yet begun, the board will step up its efforts if necessary.
India’s visit, which was originally planned for September, was postponed last year due to the political circumstances between the two neighbouring countries. For several months, the Bangladesh Cricket Board-BCCI relationship has been severely strained due to the absence of Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL. The board prioritised India’s forthcoming tour in a letter to the BCCI in April in an attempt to improve tensions.
Every visiting team, particularly the top cricketing nations, is always concerned about security. Our formal communication with them has not yet begun. If the tour proceeds as scheduled, we hope there won’t be any complaints,” Ibrahim stated, as reported by Cricbuzz.
BCB on security and tour planning in India
The BCB delegate was direct about the existing situation between the two boards.
“We are still figuring out the specifics of the trip, and there hasn’t been a positive message yet. Since the tour is quickly approaching, we are attempting to create connection through our official channels,” Ibrahim continued.
Regarding the specific matter of heightened security measures, the chairman was unambiguous.
“We always make an effort to plan our events in a controlled setting and guarantee the greatest levels of security. We will increase security if necessary, but it will depend on the circumstances,” he stated.
What led to the poor relationship between BCB and BCCI?
Recent reports indicate that behind-the-scenes movement is increasing. The BCB is reportedly requesting bids for the digital media and broadcast rights that will cover its home international calendar in 2026 and 2027. This is typically interpreted as an indication that the hosts believe India’s visit is almost certain.
Bangladesh and India are expected to play a white-ball series in August or September. No official dates have been verified by any board.
