Abhishek Sharma rose to the top of the ICC T20I rankings for the first time in July of last year. But lately, he has had trouble playing international cricket. He scored around 600 runs at an average of 40.21 and a strike rate of 204.73 during an incredible Indian Premier League (IPL) season, but he had a poor performance in the T20 World Cup earlier this year, and his attempts to follow international matches have failed.
Former India opener Kris Srikkanth claims that opposition teams in international cricket have identified Abhishek Sharma’s vulnerability. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee should reinstate Sanju Samson in the starting lineup, according to the former cricket player turned commentator.
“Abhishek Sharma has been sorted out (by opponents) in international cricket, right from the World Cup.” I believe it’s time to make a hard decision against him. I think Sanju will now have another opportunity. 100% of the time, he will get a callback. In a video posted to his YouTube account, he stated that the selectors will need to make a difficult decision.
Samson, who was essential to India’s success at the T20 World Cup earlier this year, was replaced by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi during the T20I series against England. However, after three consecutive losses, the 15-year-old Kerala wicketkeeper-batter was called back for the final game of the five-match series. Samson made a bold cameo at Southampton’s Rose Bowl, scoring 27 off 14 balls.
Despite playing in all five of the England tour’s games, Abhishek Sharma only scored 131 runs at an average of 26.20.
Samson was “rested” for the next tour to Zimbabwe, while Abhishek Sharma played in all three games but scored 1, 8, and 2.
But Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has lived up to his reputation, winning the Player of the Series trophy and scoring two half-centuries in three games against Zimbabwe.
