The 32-year-old captain, Georgia Adams, signed a new two-year deal with Hampshire Women on August 18, 2026, which would keep him at Utilita Bowl through the end of the 2028 season. The agreement ensures that the Southern Vipers will retain their most seasoned player and on-field leader for the next phase of the team’s development.
Adams has amassed over 4,000 runs with the Vipers since making her debut in the 2016 Women’s Cricket Super League, earning her the team’s most-capped player and record run scorer. She has also taken 156 wickets while playing for the Southern Vipers, proving her value as a genuine game-winner in both sports. “I absolutely love playing my cricket at Hampshire and Utilita Bowl; this club is practically my home,” she said.
As a team, we have a stellar record in all game formats and a reputation for producing players for both the team and the nation. In an official statement, Adams stated, “I’m thrilled I can continue my career with Hampshire as we look to reach another 50-over final on our home ground come September.”
What kind of behaviour did Adams display prior to the new agreement?
Adams made the declaration following a prosperous summer. She was named Player of the Match in Sunday’s Hundred final triumph over Sunrisers Leeds with stats of 2 for 9. She returned bowling figures of 4-16 against The Blaze earlier in the season, but she scored an undefeated century against Surrey in the Women’s One-Day Cup quarterfinal at Utilita Bowl the year before.
“Georgia is the cornerstone of women’s cricket here at Utilita Bowl, and we are delighted she will remain here for at least another two seasons.” She has won six titles with the Southern Vipers, a record that attests to both her individual effort and the team’s consistent prominence in the domestic women’s game.
She has demonstrated her ability to win games for the team on multiple occasions with bat and ball, and she is our leader both on and off the pitch. Adam Carty, Hampshire’s regional director of women’s cricket, stated, “She is an essential part of our plans for the next phase of our journey, and we look forward to seeing her continue to flourish here at Utilita Bowl.”
What additional playing experience does Adams bring to the extended deal?
Adams started her career in Sussex, the county where her father Chris had a two-decade career, before moving to Hampshire and becoming a major figure in the Southern Vipers organization. She is not limited to playing county cricket at home. She has won The Hundred three times, with the Oval Invincibles, Southern Brave, and Trent Rockets, respectively.
She played for the New South Wales squad that won the Women’s Big Bash League with the Adelaide Strikers in 2023 and the Women’s National Cricket League in 2025. She became well-known throughout the world in 2024 after playing for England versus Ireland in her first series.
