Australian batter Usman Khawaja, who was born in Pakistan, responded to news of the PCB’s complaint regarding the interview’s broadcast on Sky Sports. He shared his opinions on social media.
Following the transmission of an interview with Imran Khan’s sons during the lunch break on the first day of the Lord’s Test, the Pakistan Cricket Board formally complained to Sky Sports. In protest of the section being shown on the international channel, the PCB contemplated removing Pakistan from the pitch following the interval.
Suleiman and Kasim, the sons of Imran Khan, who has been incarcerated for three years, expressed concern about their father’s health during a conversation with Mike Atherton in the Writers’ Room at Lord’s on Wednesday morning, August 26.
According to reports, the PCB protested to Sky before the lunch break, saying that if the interview was shown, players would not return to the pitch after lunch. The interview was not broadcast by Pakistan’s PTV, which is airing the series.
Khawaja responds forcefully
Concerns regarding Imran Khan’s welfare persisted at the time of the interview. Imran was taken to the state-run PIMS and returned to prison quickly after a check-up, despite the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s ruling for him to be admitted to Shifa Hospital in Islamabad. The 73-year-old former captain of the World Cup was sentenced to three years in prison.
Earlier, Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister of Pakistan, received a letter from Mike Atherton and twenty other former captains, including Sunil Gavaskar, asking for Imran to receive the necessary medical attention. International concern over the former cricket player’s health and incarceration was brought to light in the letter. Pat Cummins, Australia’s current Test captain, expressed his worries about the state of affairs on social media as well.
The visitors are dominated by England.
After reaching 81/3 in 22 overs in their second innings, England concluded Day 2 of the second Test in a dominant position. England now have a 261-run advantage at stumps after bowling Pakistan out for just 110 in the first innings.
