Due to a finger injury, Pakistani batsman Shan Masood will miss the second Test match against the West Indies, which begins on Sunday, August 2 at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago. The hosts are led 1-0 in the series after winning the opening Test by 90 runs.
Despite the Men in Green’s loss, Shan Masood had an outstanding effort in the first Test, scoring 109 runs in the first innings—the only individual century of the game.
But during his amazing knock, Jayden Seales struck the left-handed batsman on the finger. He batted at number eight while his team was struggling in the second inning, but he was only able to score three runs. On the fourth morning, he did not take the pitch.
“Pakistan Test batter Shan Masood has been ruled out of the second Test against the West Indies after sustaining an injury to the index finger of his left hand during the first Test at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad,” the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) stated, adding that Shan Masood will not be picked for the second Test while the travelling medical staff treats his broken finger following scans and other evaluations. Shan is now receiving treatment from the Pakistan team medical panel after a scan and clinical evaluation, according to the official PCB release.
Due to the unfortunate timing of the injury, Shan Masood selection for the first Test match against England at Headingley, Leeds, is also at risk. The former captain of Pakistan has played for Yorkshire on the domestic circuit for two seasons, so he is familiar with the region. But he will accompany the others instead of returning home.
“His recuperation and clinical progress will determine his availability for the first Test match against England, which begins at Leeds on August 19. He will stay with the team in the interim,” the statement added.
After a quick tour of the Caribbean, Pakistan will play a three-match series in England for the first time in more than six years.
