Following his team’s resounding 270-run victory over England at Lord’s on Monday, July 13, Amol Muzumdar, the head coach of India’s women’s team, has supported the establishment of a Women’s World Test Championship (WTC).
Muzumdar said after India’s historic triumph that Test cricket remains the best version of the game and that an eventual Women’s World Cup might result from the increasing number of matches in the longest format.
Naturally, we would be happy if it took place. Test cricket, in my opinion, is the best format for the game. Our group is aware of it. not only the group of leaders but also the players who are emerging. They are also aware of how much we take pride in Test cricket, Amol Muzumdar stated at the news conference following the game.
India’s hectic Test schedule this year, which includes matches against South Africa, England, and Australia, gives the coach hope that the women’s game is improving.
This year, we’ll play three Test matches. We played one in Australia, one at Lord’s right now, and one in South Africa in December. Thus, I believe there are three Test matches per year. Why not? However, I’m not the one to evaluate it or shed light on it. However, I think it’s fantastic if it occurs,” he continued.
India won handily thanks to a series of excellent performances, with rookie Kranti Gaud becoming one of the game’s biggest heroes. After ending with impressive match scores of 7/91, the young bowler was duly chosen as Player of the Match.
Amol Muzumdar was very pleased with Gaud’s discipline, which demonstrated her ability to consistently bowl in the right areas throughout the Test.
“Kranti, in my opinion, had exceptional control. She was in the channel, as we call it, right there. She had excellent control over her length and line. She was generally on the good-length range, which we have been talking about for a while, but she never made a mistake on the shorter side—possibly an odd delivery here and there. I believe she has just reaped the benefits of adhering to control, the line, and the length. “I guess good bowling in a Test match,” he remarked.
Another crucial element in India’s success was Yastika Bhatia, whose brilliant century in the second innings allowed India to set a challenging aim for England in the fourth innings. The wicketkeeper-batter’s 113 helped the visitors win easily.
Upon reflection of Yastika’s innings, Amol Muzumdar commended both the quality of the knock and her capacity to recover from several injury setbacks in the preceding years.
“I believe it was a unique knock. It goes without saying that her arrival to Lord’s must be outstanding, one that she and the entire squad will remember. Furthermore, her recovery from the injuries truly impressed me. She has had some serious injuries over the past few years, but she has persevered and remained loyal to the game despite everything,” he said.
The Indian women’s team will meet Zimbabwe in a three-match Twenty20 International series in October 2026 after this historic triumph.
