Jasprit Bumrah returned to ODIs for the first time in 968 days, making an immediate impact in the first game of the three-match series against England. After going wicketless in his first four overs, Bumrah struck on the first ball of his second delivery after the powerplay, getting Brook caught at first slip by Rohit Sharma.
Gurnoor Brar’s Breakthrough Moment
Brar struggled in his first spell, but turned the game around after changing ends, dismissing Jacob Bethell with a hard length delivery that forced a powerful swipe before Washington Sundar caught deep midwicket. He dismissed Ben Duckett two balls later as the opening combination fell apart in consecutive deliveries, England slipping from 61 for no loss to 63 for two in the 13th over.
Brar’s breakthrough sparked a period in which India’s whole bowling unit seized control and momentum in the match. Prasidh Krishna bowled a double-wicket maiden, dismissing Buttler and Sam Curran in succession.
England rebounded with a 121-run seventh-wicket stand from Joe Root and Liam Dawson to post a respectable score. Axar Patel’s four wickets for 62 runs reduced England to 258 all out, with Root unbeaten on 76 and Liam Dawson adding 68 runs.
The second one-day international will be played on Thursday, July 16, 2026, in Cardiff, with the series finale slated for Sunday, July 19, at Lord’s.
