Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi has reportedly filed a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Unit after being dropped during a match, adding to the already contentious Lanka Premier League 2026.
Before LPL 2026 ever started, Manjot Kalra, a former co-owner of the Jaffna Kings, was detained by Sri Lanka’s Special Investigation Unit on suspicion of match-fixing.
The franchise’s ownership rights were removed by the organisers after the incident, and Sri Lanka Cricket is presently handling the matter.
Shaheen Afridi is currently embroiled in a case involving the Anti-Corruption Unit. Afridi and the Kandy Royals have reportedly had tense relations, with the most recent episode raising questions about potential wrongdoing.
According to reports, Afridi was on the verge of going back home because the incident had badly disturbed him. But the tournament organisers and franchise officials apologised to him and convinced him to stay.
Shaheen Afridi was told by the Kandy Royals that he would play as an impact player prior to their game against the Colombo Caps, according to The Express Tribune.
The Royals batted first, but in the middle of the innings, Afridi received an apology from the team’s coach, who explained that his name had not been submitted as the designated impact player because of an analyst’s error.

Shaheen Afridi, who was taken aback by the last-minute development, was naturally irritated by the unprofessional approach that led to the event and promptly denounced it to the Anti-Corruption Unit.
The match referee was also made aware of the problem. The event apparently infuriated Afridi so much that he first made the decision to go back to Pakistan.
For those who don’t know, an impact player is a player who doesn’t play a full two-innings match for his club under a rule that was adopted in the Indian Premier League and borrowed by the LPL.
Rather, if he or she is a specialist bowler or hitter, he or she is called up as needed during the game by replacing a player who was previously in the starting lineup.
After being persuaded by management, Shaheen Afridi remains in Sri Lanka.
Neither Afridi nor the franchise have provided any additional remarks. According to the most recent information, the Pakistani pacer was persuaded to stay with the team rather than go home by the tournament organisers.
Shaheen Afridi has participated in three LPL 2026 games thus far, taking four wickets with a strike rate of 16.00 and an economy rate of 9.73. He has frequently taken wickets, but the Kandy Royals have sometimes suffered as a result of his costly periods.
Having only won one of its first four games, the team is currently at the bottom of the standings.
For those who don’t know, Kandy immediately signed Shaheen Afridi to a unique deal prior to the competition. Afridi was permitted to join the competition, which started on July 17, after receiving a No Objection Certificate from the Pakistan Cricket Board.
