The Galle Marvels vs. Jaffna Kings match on July 23 was an amazing drama, with multiple lost catches, subpar bowling, and huge hitting all crammed into just seven deliveries. Despite settling underneath the ball, Dunith Wellalage at deep mid-wicket let it slip between his clutches as it fell on the turf and rolled over the rope for a boundary after Sahan mistimed a slog sweep to a length ball around middle.

The ball that followed Sahan’s second life resulted in another missed catch, this time from David Wiese. Once more, Sahan hit a full toss in the direction of long-on, but Wiese missed the opportunity, enabling the batsman to reach his fifty off just thirty balls with the boundary.
Sahan hit another six on the fourth ball of the eighteenth over, which was followed by a wide that gave up an additional run because a stumping opportunity was missed. After that, Mohammad Nawaz crushed the penalty delivery for a massive six.
Wellalage made the catch close to the boundary rope, but he stepped on it, giving Galle another maximum. Traveen Matthew gave up 34 runs in the 18th over, the most costly over in LPL history, and the final ball of the over vanished for six off Nawaz’s bat once more.

Jaffna is destroyed during the chase by Galle Marvels’ good fortune.
With Sahan leading the way with 63 off 36 balls and opener Chris Lynn contributing 46 off 22 deliveries, Galle Marvels’ remarkable effort enabled them to score an incredible 193 runs.
With four wickets lost during the powerplay, Jaffna Kings’ pursuit was a complete failure. Dunith Wellalage was the only player attempting to save the innings after Jaffna had already lost eight wickets before even reaching the 100-run milestone.
Jaffna Kings are currently ranked fourth in the five-team LPL 2026 standings, but the team was bowled out for 133 runs in 18 overs as Galle Marvels climbed to the top of the points table.
