Yastika Bhatia, who just made an incredible recovery with her first Test century at Lord’s, claims that the most significant benefit of her protracted injury layoff was not only another opportunity to represent India but also the conviction that she can overcome any setback. She claims that perseverance, patience, and an unwavering faith in the process turned a difficult stage in her career into one that has given her greater confidence than before.
Before making a comeback to international cricket in the T20I series against England in May, Yastika Bhatia missed the home ODI World Cup victory in 2025 and the WPL earlier this year due to an ACL injury that kept him out of action for about eighteen months. “This journey taught me patience and resilience during the rehab,” Yastika Bhatia remarked in a conversation. “You must adhere to the process even if you are unable to see the outcome. You must have faith in your ability to recover.
The road wasn’t easy, even after returning to international cricket after a protracted absence. Before being dropped out of the Asian Games squad, Bhatia batted in various places and managed just 41 in three innings during the T20 World Cup, despite playing all three games against England at No. 3 and scoring one fifty.
Before a Test opportunity against England helped her find her best, she regarded this phase as another test of patience and gave credit to the team management, captain Harmanpreet Kaur, and coach Amol Muzumdar for their clear communication and support during the uncertainties.
The Indian team has been really helpful to me during this critical time. Harman and Amol Sir have spoken with me. They have supported me in this circumstance, and I had the opportunity to participate in the Test match. I’m capable of earning a hundred. I was also greatly assisted by it. The Indian team is fully behind me. I’ll get an opportunity if I do well.”
Yastika Bhatia found strength in the Bhagavad Gita during that time.
She claimed that the lessons on concentrating on one’s deeds rather than the result enabled her to maintain her detachment and dedication to the process throughout her recovery.
“I read the Gita, and the central theme is Karma,” she remarked. “We must continue to work. We must continue working even though we don’t have to worry about the outcome. We must keep our distance from the outcomes. Thus, I believe that procedure is crucial.
Yastika Bhatia described how she had divided the innings into smaller milestones while recounting her Lord’s hundred. Her immediate objective was to bat through the morning session before worrying about the century after starting overnight on 39 on day three. She claimed to have remained dedicated to her innately aggressive game even after reaching her 90s.
However, the feelings took control when the landmark eventually materialised. I was quite emotional when that moment arrived. I recalled what had happened to me over the previous three years. There is no one who owns this adventure. The credit for that goes to everyone who supported and believed in me.
Yastika Bhatia, who is 25 years old, sees the Lord’s century as the start of the next chapter, even though it may have been the end of one comeback. Sachin Tendulkar was among those who praised the Indian squad following the triumph; she plans to take his advise to “stay humble and stay hungry” with her. I am also excited about the following stage. Simply being on the pitch is thrilling’, she remarked.
