The young Indian batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has admitted that his cricket career has been somewhat turbulent in recent months. The 15-year-old stated he is still confident and dedicated to following his process ahead of India’s Twenty20 International series against Zimbabwe, which starts in Harare on Thursday, July 23.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi experienced a meteoric ascent after his IPL heroics, earning his first India call-ups for the T20I tours of England and Ireland. Despite not being able to participate in the two-match series against Ireland, the young player became India’s youngest-ever international cricket player when he made his debut in the second Twenty20 International against England in Manchester.
The left-handed batsman participated in the next three Twenty20 Internationals but failed to make a significant impact. He was benched for the fifth and final game after Sanju Samson returned to the starting lineup. In the end, India lost the series 4-0.
Despite the challenging start to his international career, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi said he is committed to giving the team his all.
“Yes, there have been several ups and down in the last four months; it’s part of cricket [and] it will keep happening but I have to follow the process and give my 100% for the team,” Vaibhav Sooryavanshi told bcci.tv.
“It’s an obvious thing that whatever I want [in terms of guidance and support], the coaches are making it available and whatever practice I require I am getting that,” the young sensation said, acknowledging that it is challenging to deal with setbacks at such a young age.I’m feeling great, and I’m confident,” he went on.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will be going back to a place that holds special significance for him.
Earlier this year, he played a crucial role in India’s successful Under-19 World Cup campaign in Zimbabwe. He led India to victory in the final by scoring an amazing 175 off just 80 deliveries against England.
“I’m playing on a ground where we won the Under-19 World Cup four months back and made history [and] to return to the ground and play here will be an entirely different feeling… really enjoying it,” the young man said, expressing his desire to maximise his familiarity with the Harare environment and gain confidence from the encounter.
I played here during the Under-19 World Cup, so I have a good sense of the surfaces and circumstances. I will therefore attempt to use everything I learned from that tournament to apply those lessons in the current matches and perform well.”
“I’ll support my practice, which I’ve already done, and I’ll try to support my game. I’ll also try to contribute anything I can to the team. I’ve played two games here, and both went smoothly. “I’ll do my best to continue it,” he said.
