The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is still hopeful of hosting India in a white-ball series in September, according to BCB chief Tamim Iqbal. The three ODIs and three T20Is that make up the tour have not yet been officially finalised and are still dependent on a variety of factors.
The series has been under scrutiny in recent months due to political tensions between the two countries. However, recent sources suggest that if the conditions are met, the trip could still go forward. Cricket ties between the two nations reached a low point earlier when Bangladesh chose not to participate in the T20 World Cup because of security concerns.
Regretfully, I have no updates on the India series. I’m in talks with the BCCI and BCB members are exchanging emails, and we’re making every effort. I’m sure that everyone is excited about Bangladesh’s series versus India, including journalists, fans, and cricket players.
I am really optimistic that they would visit Bangladesh, which is a very safe country. Tamim Iqbal was reported by Cricbuzz as saying, “I am the BCB president, and there is a line that I should never cross. Whatever steps need to be taken from our side, we are trying, but one thing we all need to understand.”
“Therefore, I am speaking to individuals and trying to explain the benefits of the India series and all those things from my position, doing anything I can within my authority. Some things are out of my control. So far, the conversations I’ve had have been really constructive. They must decide as well. We might learn whether or not the series is happening very soon. So we’ll find out shortly,” he continued.
Tamim Iqbal, who was recently chosen chairman of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Franchise League Committee, said that both Bangladesh and he are incredibly happy to be in charge of the body that oversees franchise cricket leagues.
“If you look at world cricket right now, along with cricket board members with the ICC, there are many others who are associate members as well – 90-plus probably or 100,” he said, expressing satisfaction with the way the discussions and proceedings went during his first ICC meeting.
Tamim Iqbal stated, “So, different nations are probably applying for T20 cricket in different leagues.”
The committee was established to oversee this entire process, including whether or not the process is being maintained, who is involved and who is not, whether or not we will approve them, whether or not there is anything going on in the current leagues that shouldn’t be happening, whether or not those leagues should be disapproved, and everything else.
“This is a very important committee, and this committee will probably play a very big part going forward, but I don’t think I should share every detail,” he said.
