Shubman Gill, the captain of India’s ODI team, dismissed worries over the team’s terrible T20I campaign on Monday, stating that the format change and the return of veteran players will provide a new outlook. During the tour, India lost all but one of their seven Twenty20 International matches, including their first-ever bilateral series loss to Ireland and a record 4-0 whitewash against England, which also cost them their top spot in the ICC rankings.
Shubman Gill is completely focused on the 2027 World Cup in Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. The three-match ODI series against England, which begins on Tuesday at Edgbaston, serves as an essential warm-up in English settings that are similar to those of the World Cup. With the return of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and KL Rahul, India’s bowling and batting depth appear to be far superior to the T20I lineup.
Will India’s World Cup preparations be derailed by forced changes?
Due to injury, the side must contend with the absence of quick bowler Harshit Rana and speed spearhead Nitish Kumar Reddy, two players the selectors had designated for substantial playing time prior to the World Cup.
Shubman Gill disputed the notion that the side is left unsettled while acknowledging the inevitable alterations.
Regarding the current state of the 50-over format, the right-handed hitter argued that in order to increase competition, triangular tournaments should be reinstated.
India’s three-match ODI series will start at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Tuesday, July 14. There will also be matches at Cardiff and Lord’s on Sunday, July 19.
