Fast bowler Shoriful Islam was rejected a No Objection Certificate (NOC) by the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Tuesday for playing for Kent in the County Championship.
According to Cricbuzz, Shoriful Islam was scheduled to accompany Hasan Mahmud into the Kent dressing room to participate in the county, but the board chose not to release him because they believed it would have jeopardised his international commitment.
The BCB cricket operation in-charge, Shahriar Nafees, told Cricbuzz, “Shoriful Islam was not given NOC considering his workload and upcoming international assignments, because in the next three months we have five Tests, seven T20s, and six ODIs.”
“Shoriful Islam is a multi-format player. In addition, he recently recovered from a hamstring strain.
We’re worried that he might not be totally fit for all those (international) matches if we issue him a NOC for four county matches because of the strain that will place on his body,” he stated.
He stated, “The team management and medical department believe it’s more important for him to train rather than play, and be fit and ready for the international matches.”
Nafees went on to say that after being contacted by Kent, they gave another pacer, Khaled Ahmed, permission to participate in the competition.
He stated, “Khaled was given a NOC for Kent because he is fully fit and hasn’t played many matches recently.”
