After recently leaving his position with the Indian men’s squad, Ryan ten Doeschate is scheduled to rejoin the Kolkata Knight Riders coaching staff. Notably, the series against England was ten Doeschate’s final one, and he has since formally resigned from his position with the Men in Blue, where he served as an assistant coach under his favourite teammate, Gautam Gambhir, following the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Ten Doeschate will be returning to the KKR lineup, where he has served as a coach and player, if the rumours are accurate.
Throughout his many IPL and Indian team spells, he frequently played under Gambhir. As he looks for a new assistant, Gambhir, who is anticipated to guide the team at least until the 2027 World Cup, will continue to serve as head coach.
The former captain of the Netherlands had previously notified the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of his departure at the conclusion of the England tour, according to Cricinfo. The Dutch veteran will work as the fielding coach for the three-time champion team under Abhishek Nayar, according to the article. Notably, he played for KKR in 2012 and 2014 and served as an assistant coach in 2024 during all of its championship-winning seasons.
Ten Doeschate had also spent time in the dressing room with Nayar, who had also joined the team as an assistant coach before leaving a year later to become the Knight Riders’ head coach. In his short time with the Indian team, the 46-year-old has experienced some success. In addition to winning the Asia Cup and Champions Trophy in 2025, the Men in Blue won the T20 World Cup again in 2026.
According to reports, Ten Doeschate resigned from the Indian squad because the BCCI had promised him that he would take over as fielding coach at the conclusion of T. Dilip’s contract, which was later extended. Ten Doeschate and BCCI have not publicly addressed the issue, thus the board will now begin looking for a replacement for the assistant coach.
