Harry Brook, England’s white-ball captain, offered a moving tribute to the former New Zealand captain after Brendon McCullum left his position as England’s Test head coach. Brook appreciated McCullum’s significant contribution to his career and lauded McCullum’s impact on England’s red-ball setup throughout his tenure.
McCullum’s four-year term as England’s Test coach came to an end after the team’s most recent Test series defeat. Since taking over in 2022 alongside then-Test captain Ben Stokes, the 43-year-old’s aggressive “Bazball” ethos has altered England’s approach to Test cricket. But a series of disappointing events finally brought an end to his term.
It was difficult to accept McCullum’s departure, according to Brook, who established himself as a reliable member of England’s Test team. After England’s six-wicket defeat to India in the first ODI at Edgbaston, the right-handed batter spoke with reporters about McCullum’s influence on his career.
“Obviously, I was disappointed. He has, in my opinion, had a significant impact on my career. Brook told reporters, “I’ve only ever played under him, and he’s been awesome for me.”
“The things that he did for the Test side when he first came in, in the last few years have been phenomenal,” the England skipper added, praising McCullum for reviving the squad and changing the Test team’s strategy.
“We will miss him,” Harry Brook, remarked.
Following Ben Stokes’ retirement from the game during the New Zealand series, Harry Brook, has emerged as one of the front-runners to become England’s next Test captain. However, the 27-year-old made it clear that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had total authority over the choice.
“I don’t have the authority to decide that. I’m now enjoying my duty as white-ball captain, so I will support them no matter what they decide. We’re moving in the right way, in my opinion, and what will be will be. “It’s not for me to make that decision, as I mentioned,” he stated.
In the current three-match ODI series between England and India, Harry Brook is in the lead. The hosts are already behind 0-1 after losing the series opener at Edgbaston by six wickets, and the second ODI is anticipated to be crucial to keeping the series going.
