Two of India’s most famous cricket players will become instructors once their playing careers are over, according to Ravichandran Ashwin. The renowned Indian player believes that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli would have distinct timelines and approaches when it comes to taking on coaching duties. While Kohli would want to take a short break from the game before taking a position, Rohit might do so rather quickly.
When Rohit retires from professional cricket, Ashwin thinks he should become a coach with the Mumbai Indians.
Ashwin thinks Rohit can take up coaching responsibilities, similar to former India coach Rahul Dravid, if he departs from the international game.
Why should Rohit Sharma join the Mumbai Indians as a coach?
Ashwin believes the Mumbai Indians should act quickly to get Rohit a teaching role after he decides to retire. The renowned Indian player underlined Rohit’s achievements as captain and his value to any squad attempting to build a strong coaching structure.
Rohit should be absorbed by the Mumbai Indians right away if he decides tomorrow that he won’t play. You won’t find a captain who led India to a World Cup and won five titles,” Ashwin stated on his YouTube channel.
“He’ll be prepared to take on a role after a year or two if he doesn’t want to be head coach because it’s a labour-intensive position. Rahul (Dravid) bhai, for example, took a rest before returning to work.
Therefore, I believe that they ought to take in these cricket players right away and keep them there. Additionally, he said, “Knowing the Mumbai Indians, they won’t let go of a player with Rohit Sharma’s thinking capacity.”
Ashwin said Rohit might not have to assume the challenging role of head coach immediately, but he could do so after a brief break from the game. He contrasted his career trajectory with that of Rahul Dravid, noting that Dravid took a hiatus before returning to coaching.
Rohit Sharma, who is 39 years old, intends to participate in the 2027 ODI World Cup, which might be his final season as a professional cricket player. He would become a coach after retiring from the international game.
The distinctive tutoring approach of Virat Kohli
Ashwin has quite different opinions about Rohit and Kohli’s coaching futures. The famous Indian believes that Kohli might prefer to take a sabbatical after retiring before taking on any coaching responsibilities, in contrast to Rohit, who Ashwin expects to assume a position rather quickly.
“I don’t believe Virat will be prepared to start coaching right away. To be honest, I have no idea about Virat. I think Virat will want to take a vacation,” Ashwin remarked.
