An update on the health and well-being of Imran Khan, the former captain of Pakistan who has been detained, has been given by former chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board Ramiz Raja. During a recent appearance on a YouTube show, Raja discussed Khan’s current circumstances and provided insights into how the former captain is handling his time away from the spotlight.
Alastair Cook questioned Raja about Imran Khan’s physical condition on the Stick to Cricket episode of The Overlap Cricket. This inquiry was made barely one day after Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister of Pakistan, received an appeal from 22 former international cricket captains asking for Khan to receive better medical care.
Raja claims that a recent eye issue has been resolved.
Raja also talked about Khan’s health issues that had recently come to light. About a week prior to Raja’s remarks, the former captain of Pakistan was dealing with an eye-related ailment, but Raja claims that the problem has since been fixed.
The international focus on Khan’s welfare while his incarceration was mirrored in Raja’s remarks.
Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Dilip Vengsarkar, Steve Waugh, Adam Gilchrist, Nasser Hussain, Andrew Strauss, Michael Atherton, Alastair Cook, Greg Chappell, Ian Chappell, Michael Brearley, Michael Gatting, David Gower, Clive Lloyd, Allan Border, Arjuna Ranatunga, Lee Germon, Kim Hughes, Belinda Clark, Alex Blackwell, and John Wright were among the 22 former cricket captains who signed the appeal.
Concerns over Khan’s care and access to appropriate medical care were highlighted by their joint appeal.
Khan was ordered to be taken to a hospital earlier in August by the Supreme Court of Pakistan so that a medical board comprising his sister, Dr. Uzma Khan, and his personal doctors could examine him. Weekly family visits were also restored by the court.
Khan, however, only spent a few hours in the hospital. Before the board could finish its job, he was evaluated by a state-appointed team instead of the board the court had ordered, deemed medically fit, and sent back to Adiala Jail.
