Shashank Singh has made the decision to leave Chhattisgarh and play for Puducherry during the domestic season of 2026–2027. The Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh granted the 34-year-old all-rounder, who plays for Punjab Kings in the IPL and is Shreyas Iyer’s vice captain, a no-objection certificate. Singh said that some state association executives’ disdain was a role in his leaving.
Shashank explained the change by citing his state team’s lack of support and clarity. He was not given an explanation for his exclusion from the 2026 Chhattisgarh Cricket Premier League, nor was he told why he wasn’t given a spot in the state probables’ conditioning camp. Singh discussed his thoughts on the matter and his future plans in an interview with NDTV.
Form problems, missed catches, and injury worries characterised Shashank most recent IPL season. But he had a much better 2024 IPL season, scoring 354 runs at a strike rate of 164.65. Singh proved his versatility in the 2024–25 Vijay Hazare Trophy by amassing 450 runs and claiming 11 wickets in seven games. Shashank services to limited-overs cricket were acknowledged with the BCCI award for best domestic white-ball all-rounder for 2023–2024.
Shashank considers his difficulties fielding during the Indian Premier League.
Shashank Singh talked about his fielding difficulties throughout the IPL season, especially after missing catches against the Lucknow Super Giants. Regaining confidence in that area of his game was a challenge for him. He said that his friends still make fun of him for those missed catches, but he said it wasn’t a technical issue but rather a loss of enthusiasm in the process.
Desire to focus on white-ball cricket
Shashank wants to focus on white-ball formats during the 2026–2027 season instead of playing in all three domestic cricket variations. He thinks that concentrating on a single format will help him advance as an all-rounder and bowler more successfully. Singh wants to develop into a true white-ball all-rounder who can bowl for extended periods of time and score hundreds in limited-overs cricket.
