Ravindra Jadeja is part of India’s squad for the two-match Test series in Sri Lanka in August 2026. The first Test, which will take place in Galle on August 15, will feature the 37-year-old Indian all-rounder. The second Test will take place in Colombo from August 23 to August 27. India will play a four-day practice match in Colombo beginning on 7 August before the first Test begins.

Jadeja was unable to participate in the most recent Test match against Afghanistan due to a tennis elbow injury he sustained during the 2026 Indian Premier League in May. During India’s home series against South Africa in Guwahati in November, he made his most recent Test appearance. Deep Dasgupta highlighted the importance of Jadeja’s experience prior to the Sri Lanka tour, noting that the all-rounder’s familiarity with the island nation’s playing conditions will be vital for a team that contains several first-time visitors.

When it comes to experience, many of the players are playing in their maiden Test series in Sri Lanka, although Jadeja has played here previously. It’s not like you can just bowl and get wickets, even on spin-friendly surfaces. You still need to determine the proper speed, line, and length. Because he has played there previously, he will be aware of that. On his YouTube channel, Dasgupta stated, “His experience playing in Sri Lanka and how he mentors new bowlers will be important.”

For the purpose of coaching new bowlers, Jadeja’s Sri Lankan background is crucial.

Before starting the Sri Lanka tour, Jadeja simply needs to take two more wickets to reach the 350 Test wicket milestone. The all-rounder has scored 4095 runs in 89 Test matches. His presence on the team not only gives India experience, but it also gives them the opportunity to accomplish a significant personal goal during the series.

Gambhir’s background as a spin player is beneficial for fostering teamwork.

Gautam Gambhir is in charge of the Indian team’s camp practice prior to the series. Dasgupta acknowledged Gambhir’s credentials as a spin bowling player by pointing up his performance against spinners during the preceding 15 years and beyond.

“Gautam was a skilled spin player. He has been one of the better spin players over the past ten to fifteen years, perhaps even this century, Dasgupta said.

Additionally, Dasgupta underlined the significance of the team’s camp sessions, saying that they will let the players to practise their spin-fighting techniques and spend time with Gambhir: “I think it is good that the players will get some time to spend with him.” He will be able to share his methods and experiences from this camp,” he continued.

India’s players will have an opportunity to acclimatise to the practice match in Colombo beginning on 7 August before the first Test.
