On Tuesday, July 28, pacers Nahid Rana and Taskin Ahmed are expected to go to Australia for comprehensive medical assessments as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) continues to monitor the fitness of its key fast bowlers. A BCB official said that the two will be accompanied by Bayjedul Islam, a physiotherapist for the national squad.
Nahid has already been ruled out of Bangladesh’s upcoming Test trip to Australia due to a left-side injury he acquired during the second Twenty20 International against Zimbabwe earlier this month. His journey to Australia, however, is reportedly unrelated to that injury and is meant to evaluate a recurrent shinbone issue that has dogged him throughout his career.
According to a BCB official, Nahid has been experiencing pain in both of his shins for a number of years, which is why the board chose to see an Australian lower-limb specialist. “Nahid Rana has been dealing with shinbone pain in his two legs since his early days and he is playing by managing it.”
According to a BCB official cited by Cricbuzz, “We previously planned that if we travel to Australia or England, we would assess his shinbone issues by sitting with a lower-limb specialist.”
Nahid’s side strain, which kept him from participating in the Australia series, has nothing to do with the visit, the official continued.
“As part of that plan he is travelling to Australia to sit with a shinbone specialist but he is not travelling there for side-strain issues because his shinbone pain is a chronic injury,” he said.
In the interim, Taskin is mostly heading to Australia to treat his persistent ankle problem rather than any shoulder-related problems. The BCB requires additional information about the condition of the seasoned fast bowler’s ankle, which has given him issues at different stages in his career, even if he is a member of Bangladesh’s team for the first Test.
“Taskin is visiting for his ankle issue that he sustained earlier at different points of his career and we want to have a third opinion regarding its status,” he stated.
Bangladesh is dealing with a number of injury problems.
Bangladesh has experienced several injury setbacks prior to their historic Test tour of Australia, making it difficult for the selectors to choose the team.
Chief selector Habibul Bashar admitted that the growing injury list caused the announcement of the 15-man squad to be delayed.
Nahid has already been ruled out of the tour, while fellow spinner Shoriful Islam will miss the first Test because of a hamstring injury. Litton Das, a batsman and wicketkeeper, is also unable to play in the series opener due to a calf injury.
Speaking after Bangladesh’s Sunday squad announcement, Habibul acknowledged the challenges faced by the selection committee. “We actually wanted to announce the squad almost weeks ago,” Habibul stated on Monday following the announcement of the historic Australia trip squad.
