Due to a knee injury, Jasprit Bumrah will not play in Sunday’s (July 19) third ODI against England.

India made three changes from the second ODI, and skipper Shubman Gill announced at the toss that Bumrah had been ruled out because of a knee problem. India welcomed back KL Rahul from sickness after losing the Cardiff match, and they also brought Prince Yadav and Arshdeep Singh to Lord’s with the series tied at one.

Jasprit Bumrah suffered an impact injury to his left knee while fielding in the second ODI in Cardiff, according to a statement from the BCCI. Reactive swelling in his left knee prevented him from being selected for the third ODI.

After his economical spell of 1-31 from nine overs in the first game, Bumrah finished the second ODI with stats of 1-45, fulfilling his quota.

Harsh Dubey was added to the squad after the BCCI confirmed a day prior to the series final that Washington Sundar would not play in the third ODI because of a hamstring problem. However, India chose to bolster their fast-bowling resources rather than go with him or Kuldeep Yadav.

India chose to keep Ishan Kishan, who had taken Rahul’s place in the second ODI, while dropping Shivam Dube in addition to KL Rahul.

Gill commented, “We’re not the ones who rely on stats so much,” about Arshdeep’s selection after he was left out of the first two ODIs. We were searching for four seamers on this ground, and we believe he is a fantastic bowler. As we’ve seen, spinners don’t provide as much in the middle overs as quick bowlers do.

Josh Tongue replaced Saqib Mahmood, another change England made from the second ODI in Cardiff.
