Following the captain’s outstanding performance in the first ODI against England at Edgbaston, former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar has showered Shubman Gill with accolades. Gill led India to victory on Tuesday, July 14, with an unbeaten 80 off 75 balls before a hamstring injury forced him to leave in the 26th over.
The remarkable half-century helped India chase down a target of 259 with six wickets remaining and 4.4 overs remaining, giving the touring team their first victory of a difficult UK tour. India were more confident before the series final because it was their first win after losing the T20 series to England 4-0 and Ireland 2-0, respectively.
“I was reminded of the moment Virat Kohli joined the squad and earned his purple patch. Every time Virat Kohli batted, it appeared like he would score runs. “It doesn’t feel like he was having difficulty at any point, whether it was fast bowling or seam,” stated Abhishek Nayar on JioStar. “Shubman Gill is looking just like that because he is looking flawless.”
Gill’s unwavering demeanour appeals to Abhishek Nayar.
The veteran coach complimented the India opener’s composed manner during his time at the crease. Despite the quick dismissal of key players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Gill did not seem to be under any pressure.
“You never saw Shubman Gill under strain, but Rohit Sharma was also struggling. Shubman was never out of place in terms of pace or spin. Unfortunately, he didn’t receive that hundred due to an injury or cramp, but he looks fantastic. Abhishek Nayar continued, “Looks like a person who is possessed and in a great space as a cricketer and a captain.”
Gill’s early departure made it unclear if he would be available for Thursday’s second ODI in Cardiff. However, Abhishek Nayar explained how to deal with the damage according to its type: “It needs to be seen what the injury is.”
Was there a pull, or were there cramps? It becomes challenging if there is a strain because you can’t heal in 1.5 days. Electrolytes are an easy way to treat cramps. You add the liquids. If it’s feasible, you can get an IV. You have a lot of options,” he said.
Shubman Gill is expected to be well after retiring at Edgbaston owing to a cramp, giving India hope for the upcoming game against Cardiff.
