Team India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate is reportedly considering resigning, citing broken promises as the primary reason.
According to Hindustan Times, the former Netherlands all-rounder has already informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of his intentions and is investigating options overseas, including a possible return to the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Although no official decision has been made about ten Doeschate’s future, the source claimed that the BCCI would prefer to retain him over fielding coach T Dilip, whose performances had reportedly been criticised over the past year.
According to reports, Ten Doeschate has already had productive discussions on a coaching role with an IPL team.
The former all-rounder was suggested to join India’s coaching team in 2024 after working with head coach Gautam Gambhir at the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Ten Doeschate reportedly consented to join Team India after being promised a position as the team’s specialised fielding coach in the future. Almost two years later, that change has not occurred.
“Gauti (Gambhir) is in charge of the batters, and Sitanshu Kotak serves as the hitting coach. Sairaj (Bahutule) oversees the spinners, while Morne (Morkel) is in charge of the pacers. According to a senior BCCI source cited by Hindustan Times, “Tendo (his nickname) was promised the position of fielding coach when he was brought on board.”
Fielding coach T Dilip, assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai, and masseur Arun Kanade were all expected to leave the support staff following the 2025 Champions Trophy.
However, Dilip reportedly received a one-year extension after winning the support of a senior Indian player, leaving ten Doeschate without a clear role in the support team. “Dilip was supposed to be removed along with Abhishek Nayar (assistant coach), Soham Desai (S&C coach), and Arun Kanade (masseur) after the 2025 Champions Trophy.”
Tendo didn’t exactly have a specific domain function, but Dilip received a one-year extension after receiving a solid recommendation from a senior player. The article went on to say, “He is an excellent coach who hasn’t been used because Dilip is there.”
The former Netherlands international’s long-term future with Team India is still undetermined because IPL prospects are beginning to appear and his expected position has not yet materialised, despite the board’s reported eagerness to retain him.
