The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) selectors have added Brydon Carse to England’s squad for the three-match One-Day International series against India. The formal announcement came during the series opener, which is presently taking place at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Tuesday, July 14.
Carse returns after recovering from wrist and elbow injuries sustained prior of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. He was ruled out of the tournament, and Sunrisers Hyderabad replaced him with Dilshan Madushanka.
This year, Brydon Carse has not played any white-ball cricket for England. His last ODI appearance was in November 2025, against New Zealand at Wellington’s Sky Stadium. Brydon Carse has played 30 ODIs for England, taking 34 wickets at an average of 40.44 and an economy rate of 6.34. He recently finished five years of ODI cricket with England. However, his injury issues have prevented him from playing regularly for the Three Lions. If England chooses to select Brydon Carse, his batting talents in the lower order will benefit the side.

Carse recently returned to competitive cricket, playing three T20 Blast matches for Durham. With the inclusion of the right-arm seamer, England’s seam-bowling attack will be much more diverse.
Saqib Mahmood, Jofra Archer, and Josh Tongue are already included in the squad as specialist seamers. Sam Curran and Gus Atkinson are the seam-bowling all-rounders for the team. Meanwhile, spinners to watch include Rehan Ahmed, James Coles, and Adil Rashid.

The first and third ODIs commence at 11am local time (3:30pm IST), while the second match begins at 1pm local time (5:30pm IST), featuring matches across Birmingham, Cardiff and London accordingly. India will attempt to rebound from their recent T20I defeat against England, with skipper Shubman Gill able to welcome back important players such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and KL Rahul for the ODI series.
