The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) tasted glory for the second time in the Indian Premier League in as many seasons, as they beat the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2026 Final on Sunday, May 31, in front of a packed crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The victory certainly sent the RCB fans in jubilation as they now have certainly become a formidable side, having cemented their legacy as a team with multiple championships to their name.
RCB chased down the 156 target with utmost comfort as Virat Kohli and Venkatesh Iyer (32 off 16) provided the perfect start, squeezing optimum utilisation out of the field restrictions in the powerplay. However, Venkatesh departed against the run of play in an attempt to keep pushing the run rate further in the chase, with Mohammed Siraj scalping the first breakthrough for GT. One followed another, as Devdutt Padikkal (1 off 4), too, succumbed to Kagiso Rabada in the last over of the powerplay.
Speaking of how the match began, it was Rajat Patidar who got the toss in his favour to opt to bowl first. His bowlers did the job excellently, with Rasikh Salam Dar being the pick of the bowlers for his 3-27 in four overs, while Josh Hazlewood, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Krunal Pandya were also fairly impressive, restricting GT to 155-8 at the end of 20 overs. For GT, it was Washington Sundar who played the lone battle with an unbeaten 50 off 37 balls.
Coming back to RCB’s innings, the things went a little haywire after the powerplay, as Rashid Khan struck with a couple of important wickets in the form of Rajat Patidar and Krunal Pandya in his first over. The fall of wickets in quick succession did not dent Kohli’s focus, as the determined batter continued his assault from one end. Kohli reached his fifty off just 25 balls, his fastest in the league’s history.
A win had just become a formality as Tim David departed after playing a good hand in the 41-run partnership for the fifth wicket alongside Kohli. Jitesh Sharma added the finishing touch, as RCB finally reached the target in the eighteenth over to lift their second-consecutive title in the lucrative T20 tournament.
