Following a ruling by the Calcutta High Court, Bengal’s 23-year-old left-handed wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel was arrested late on Monday, August 10, 2026. The Emami City cricket player was taken into custody. The Delhi Capitals signed him for INR 4 crore after he participated in 35 IPL games. He is expected to appear in court in Chinsurah on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

On June 23, 2026, a female medical student from Karnataka submitted a complaint at the Mogra police station, leading to the arrest. According to the lawsuit, the woman met Porel in January 2023, and he took her to his flat in Mankundu and started having intercourse with her after pledging to marry her. Additionally, the woman accused him of creating secret tapes and using them to threaten her.

“There was a case lodged against him and a court order to arrest him,” she added, adding that Abishek Porel  had illegally imprisoned her, kept her alone, and denied her food during their relationship. Late yesterday nite, he was taken into custody. The Hindu reported on Tuesday that Hooghly (Rural) Superintendent of Police Kunar Bhushan Singh said, “He will be produced in court today.”

A few months earlier, Abishek Porel had denied the allegations and declared them to be false.

“I am playing well now, so things are coming up,” the cricket star told the reporters, promising to address the matter once the police investigation was finished. The IPL just concluded.

I’m currently occupied with my family. When the cops look into this, we’ll discuss it. Abishek Porel denied the accusations, saying, “I have still not spoken to the police.”

Abishek Porel, who was born on October 17, 2002, has played 116 domestic cricket matches for Bengal. Ishan Porel, a former pacer for the Punjab Kings, is his cousin. Since the start of the Bengal Pro T20 League, he has led his team, the Kolkata Royal Tigers, and he has also captained the Bengal team.
