For the forthcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, India has selected a 15-man team, and all-rounder Saransh Jain has been called up to the senior team for the first time. Experienced players Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, who were not available for India’s one-time Test match against Afghanistan, are back for the series.
Jain received recognition for his outstanding performances in both domestic cricket and the most recent India A tour of Sri Lanka. With 2,223 runs and 188 wickets in 54 games, the 25-year-old all-rounder has established a solid first-class record. His addition follows Washington Sundar’s exclusion from the series because of a hamstring injury he suffered during the ODI series against England.
After recuperating from a tennis elbow injury that prevented him from playing for his country recently, Jadeja is also back. Together with Bumrah, he gives an Indian team looking to get off to a great start in the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) cycle a great deal of experience and skill. The pace attack will be strengthened by Bumrah’s comeback, while Jadeja’s versatility will be essential on turning tracks.
The Galle International Stadium will host the opening Test of the series on August 15, while the SSC in Colombo will host the second Test starting on August 23. Ind will play a four-day practice match in Colombo beginning on 7 August before the series begins, giving the players much-needed preparation before the first Test.
After a disheartening 2-0 home series loss to South Africa in November, Ind first task in the new WTC cycle is the Sri Lanka visit. Before that defeat, Ind had defeated the West Indies 2-0 at home and drawn a tough five-Test series 2-2 in England. In the WTC rankings, India is now ranked fifth, and Sri Lanka is right behind them in sixth.
