Former Bangladeshi captain Khaled Mahmud has rejoined the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as an age-group cricket consultant. Under a two-year deal, the 54-year-old will oversee the training of aspiring cricket players within the country’s grassroots system.
Mahmud has previously served in the BCB in a variety of capacities, including head of the Game Development Committee. His return aligns with the board’s attempts to enhance its age-group structure by utilising his extensive coaching and developmental expertise.
Speaking about his new role, Khaled Mahmud stated that discussions with BCB president Tamim Iqbal had been ongoing for some time and that he was excited to return to a career he loved. “I was discussing this (working with age-level cricket) with Tamim (BCB president) for quite a while now,” he added. Mahmud was quoted by Cricbuzz as saying, “I have been given a two-year deal.”
The former all-rounder went on, “Working with young cricketers has always been close to my heart.” He had devoted a significant amount of his coaching career to player development.
“I enjoy working on this project. The majority of my coaching career has been devoted to development and age-group cricket. “I did my best to develop cricket players at that level when I was chairman of the BCB development committee,” he stated. “We also won the Youth World Cup.” I primarily coached age-group cricket players after I left the board. For me, the new position is perfect. “I hope I can accomplish something worthwhile during these two years,” he remarked.
Khaled Mahmud played a key role in Bangladesh’s age-group system during his prior term on the board. He was in command of the BCB’s Game Development Unit when Bangladesh won their first ICC Under-19 World Cup in South Africa in 2020.
The BCB administration reportedly viewed his return as a crucial step in strengthening the country’s cricketing pipeline. Because of his experience nurturing young talent, board members believe Mahmud is an ideal candidate to coach the next generation of Bangladeshi cricket players.
During the previous BCB administration, Khaled Mahmud captained the Bangladesh men’s national team in multiple ICC competitions in addition to his role in player development.

Khaled Mahmud played for Bangladesh in the early years of their international existence and established himself as a dependable all-rounder. He played in 12 Test matches and 77 One-Day Internationals, accumulating substantial runs with the bat and claiming 13 Test and 67 ODI wickets.
