The ODI series against England will not include veteran fast bowler Harshit Rana. Due to a hamstring injury, Rana was previously unable to play in the remaining two Twenty20 Internationals of the England tour.
On July 9, the BCCI released a concerning update regarding Harshit Rana, revealing that the fast bowler’s injury setback would prevent him from playing in the fourth and fifth Twenty20 Internationals of the England series. Rana would also miss the three-match ODI series and receive rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, according to a trustworthy source from India Today.
In the meantime, the BCCI has verified the information and disclosed Harshit Rana’s replacement in the India ODI team playing England.
In the India ODI squad against England, Harshit Rana will be replaced by promising fast bowler Prince Yadav. In an official press statement on Sunday, July 12, the BCCI confirmed Prince Yadav would take Rana’s spot in the three-match ODI series against England.According to the BCCI, the Men’s Selection Committee has selected Prince Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi to replace Varun Chakaravarthy and Harshit Rana in India’s ODI and T20I teams, respectively.
Why would Harshit Rana be absent from the India vs. England ODIs?
Harshit Rana’s injury’s precise nature was disclosed by the BCCI. During the third Twenty20 International between India and England at Trent Bridge, Rana complained of severe pain in his right hamstring, according to the Indian Cricket Board’s official press statement.
According to the statement, Rana was unable to participate in the three-match ODI series against England after being diagnosed with a grade 1 hamstring injury.During the third Twenty20 International against England at Trent Bridge, Rana reported experiencing an abrupt onset of discomfort in his right hamstring. Scans later on showed a Grade 1 hamstring damage. He will report to the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) for additional evaluation and management after being thrown out of the upcoming ODI series against England, the BCCI said.
Interestingly, the healing period for a grade 1 hamstring injury is often 1-3 weeks. Rana may therefore resume playing cricket during the home ODI series against the West Indies, which starts on September 27, even if the BCCI hasn’t released an official update on his return.
What is the ODI cricket record of Prince Yadav?
Speaking of Prince Yadav, the right-arm fast bowler gained notoriety after a string of outstanding IPL appearances with the Lucknow Super Giants.
He received his first call-up for the home series against Afghanistan after the BCCI selection committee noticed his ability to move the new ball up front, strike the deck hard, and compel the hitters to make mistakes with razor-sharp accuracy.
The Afghanistan series saw the debut of Prince Yadav, who has been selected to replace Harshit Rana in the India ODI squad against England. With a strike rate of 29 and an average of 31.3, the young bowler has taken three wickets in two ODI outings.
Will Prince Yadav participate in the first ODI between England and India?
Prince is a perfect replacement for Rana since, in addition to his bowling, he is an athletic fielder and a valuable tail-ender.
Prince Yadav may not start in India’s playing XI for the first ODI against England, despite his inclusion in the squad. Instead, the management of the team is probably going to favour top pacers like Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Gurnoor Brar, and Prasidh Krishna to lead their fast bowling unit.
